Manufacturing
Orr Felt's five-step process focuses on accuracy and efficiency to meet your product specifications. With our capacity, we can meet any customer demand on almost any timetable. Moreover, our quality systems ensure that raw materials and finished products meet specifications throughout the manufacturing process. To see how your felt is manufactured, please choose the Virtual Tour on our Website. Here are a few highlights of our exacting manufacturing process: Five steps based on quality, processes and your specifications Manufacturing underscores our commitment to quality, R&D and our customers. Our five-step manufacturing process ensures that the final product meets your needs. Your specifications are checked, rechecked and maintained for guaranteed quality. Step 1: Blending combines previously tested virgin materials in hoppers, mixes them, and then mixes them again. Bales of blended fiber are inspected, banded and labeled. Step 2: Weaving begins with prepackaged yarn that comprises the base fabric, which is woven into widths of 200 to 1,008 inches. Our looms can weave every known yarn to produce felt clothing for every type of paper mill. Step 3: With Burling, the woven fabric is hand-inspected for flaws, and re-woven if necessary. This attention to detail sets the Orr Felt Company apart from the competition. The base fabric is heat set after inspection. Step 4: During Needling, the layers of batt are needled into the base fabric. Web weight variations are minimized, allowing us to meet the demands of the most critical high-speed papermaking machines. The felt is trimmed, measured, weighed and tested. Step 5: Finishing includes washing and chemically treating the felt to improve performance. The felt is trimmed to size. The seam is opened and the flap is formed. The protection harness and leader are installed, followed by a final inspection. Across our manufacturing facility, equipment is constantly updated to keep our customers abreast of the changing demands of the papermaking industry. Orr Felt invests in state-of-the-art equipment, innovative research & development laboratories and exceptional customer service, along with the finest, most dedicated people in our field, and that investment pays off in quality products for the finest papermakers in the business.
